I put together a list of my top 5 movies that I like to watch during the holiday or Christmas season.  I didn’t choose the obvious films like you see in the picture below even though I do watch most of those during the holidays too.  Check these out, I’m doing this as a countdown from 5 to 1, so the number 1 film is a mandatory watch by all of you.  You won’t be disappointed…

5.  Yogi’s First Christmas -1980

YogiFirstChristmas

This was a tv movie that I loved when I was little. They used to play it every year until about 2000 then it just disappeared.  Yogi’s First Christmas is probably more of a nostalgia pick then a classic but I love it.

4.  Jingle All The Way – 1996

Jingle-All-The-Way-Poster

Jingle All The Way stars the best action hero ever, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger along with Sinbad and the late great Phil Hartman.  This is a family Christmas movie that is about a couple of dads trying to get the hottest toy of the year for their sons.  It’s corny and cheesy but it’s a perfect holiday movie that will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit.

3.  Die Hard – 1988

die-hard

With all the sappy Christmas love and holiday cheer it’s nice to get back to reality and watch Bruce Willis put caps in mother fuckas.  Die Hard is the perfect holiday movie for a couple of reasons, the first is it takes place during the Christmas season at a holiday party in the Naktomi Tower…second, it’s simply a badass movie!  John McClane is a great character and it never gets old watching him blast dudes and put them in Santa hats.  And at last the third and final reason this movie is the perfect holiday film is whenever I’m at a work, family or Christmas gathering where there’s alcohol involved I always think of that sleaze ball Harry Ellis saying “Hans, Bubby” with a little coke on his stache.  That’s a holiday chuckle that always works its way into my thought bank during the holidays.

2.  Goon – 2011

Goon

This isn’t a Christmas movie, actually the lead character is Jewish, but it is an ice hockey movie which takes place on ice… and ice is cold… and the Christmas season is cold…You get my point.  Goon is a recent addition to my holiday roundup and to be honest, the first time I watched it I didn’t really like it.  It’s about a minor hockey player who can’t do anything on the ice but fight.  It’s based loosely on a real life guy named Doug Smith who made a career dropping the gloves.  As a big hockey fan, I was initially disappointed with this movie because of how unrealistic a lot of the scenes are.  But after watching it a couple of times, and getting over my forced perception of how it should be and just appreciating it for what it is, I love it. The characters are great, the movie is funny and Liev Shreiber’s character Ross Rhea is awesome.  Liev looks like a total badass.  Check this movie out if you haven’t seen it.  It’s wintery cold and cozy movie that will get you in the mood for the holiday season.

1.  Fubar – Balls to the Wall  – 2010

fubartitle

This movie is actually directed by the same guy who did Goon (above) and no I’m not his friend or have any connection to him.  He just happened to make a couple of good movies that are perfect to watch during the Christmas season.  Fubar actually does take place during Christmas but isn’t a Christmas movie.  Fubar is about two Canadian buddies who are complete losers.  They love beer, heavy metal and are always looking to party.  After burning down their house Terry and Dean move to Edmonton to work at an oil refinery and indulge in the pleasures that come with making money.  I think this movie is hilarious.  This is a movie you will love or hate.  It’s hands down my favorite movie to watch during the holidays and gets me in the mood to go to my local “Peelers!!” and party.  Watch the movie and see what I’m talking about.
